Mark your calendars for Saturday, Oct. 10. and join us as we celebrate the Norman Studios' star supporters! Any filmmaker knows that it takes a team of passionate, dedicated people to build a blockbuster. So, the Norman Studios Silent Film Museum Board of Directors wants to recognize those who have played starring roles in preserving the Norman property - the nation's only surviving, full silent film studio complex.

Our super stars:

  • Melanie Cross (posthumously), who initiated the earliest efforts to save the Norman Studios

  • State Representative Lake Ray, who urged the City of Jacksonville to purchase and preserve the property

  • Old Arlington, Inc., a group of passionate preservationists who helped lobby city and state officials to fund the purchase and the structural and exerior restoration of four of the Norman buildings, and who served as NSSFM's parent company as we got our start

  • Nelnet, which has been our single largest corporate sponsor to date

Without their help, the last vestige of Jacksonville's glory days as the Winter Film Capital of the World would have fallen  into ruins and disappeared from our city and our memories.

Supporting roles are imporant too! We'll announce details of First Coast Flickers, a new documentary by NSSFM and the Art Institute of Jacksonville celebrating Jacksonville's silent film heyday, as well as a new Stage Aurora production of a play based on the life, career and friendships of silent filmmaker Richard Norman.

Stage Aurora peformers also will give a sneak peek of their next play, APOSTASY: 360 DEGREES. Costumed actors will lead tours of the Norman Studios lot, painting a vivid picture of what life as a silent filmmaker was like. Capt. Richard E. Norman, son of silent filmmaker Richard Norman will give firsthand accounts of his famous father's movie-making days. And a host of local authors will be on hand to sign their books, which feature an array of local history subjects.

Speakers include City Councilman JohnnyGaffney, filmmaker Nadia Ramoutar, Broadway entertainer Darryl Hall and reigning Miss Florida Essence Angel Jackson.
