Preserving the Legacy of Silent Film -
Norman Studios Friends of the Park Preview
Oct. 10, 2009, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

This event, held at the Norman property and at Circle of Faith Ministries honored those who have played starring roles in preserving silent filmmaker Richard Norman's historic silent film studio complex: the late Melanie Cross, who began the initial efforts to save the property; State Representative Lake Ray and At-Large City Council Member Glorious Johnson, who helped convince the City of Jacksonville to purchase four of the Norman buildings; Old Arlington, Inc., the organization that served as our parent company as we got our start; and Nelnet, NSSFM's largest single contributor to date. The event included an awards presentation, performances by the Stage Aurora 100 Young Voices Musical Theatre Program and tours led by 1920s era costumed actors and Capt. Richard Norman (the filmmaker's son). And a production team of students from the Art Institute of Jacksonville kicked off filming of First Coast Flickers, a documentary about Jacksonville's history in the film industry.
